What was Freud's contrabution to understanding Gothic?
If you remember or scroll down further to my earlier post about Freud, you will remember how I talked about Freud and his analysis of "the uncanny", which if you also remember I said was essentially being frightened by something that is fimilar to us. In Vienna we were able to go to where Freud worked and where his patients were "analyzed". Sigmond Freud was essentially an Austrian therapist who was also the founder of psychoanalysis. He also had a daughter who followed in his footsteps and furthered his research. Anna (his daughter) found that she could do a psychoanalysis for children. Freud's work mostly revolved around wealthy upper class women more so than men becuase most women during this time were suffering from anxieties and being depressed all of the time. This was essentially Freud's contribution to better understanding Gothic writing because a majority of Gothic characters are the female herione's that are usually depressed and driven by madness and those kind of go hand and hand with what his worked involved.
